Program Information
BFA in Production
Students are admitted to the Film School only in the Fall Semester. We admit a freshman class and a sophomore-in-college transfer class. Each fall, approximately 25 freshmen film majors merge with a class of approximately 5 transfer students, and begin the Film School seven semester production program. Freshmen spend their freshman year (the first two semesters) at Florida State University completing the university liberal arts requirements.
MFA in Production
The MFA Program is a full-time (Fall, Spring, and Summer), two-year course of study in motion picture production in which 90 credit hours of courses are ultimately completed. Our focus is story and storytelling. To maintain the caliber of education necessary for our students to succeed in an extremely competitive industry, we admit only 24 production students each year.
MFA in Writing for the Stage & Screen
The course of study in Writing for the Stage & Screen is offered jointly by the College of Motion Picture, Television and Recording Arts, and The School of Theatre. Only 6 writing students are admitted each Fall. The program is comprised of six consecutive semesters (63 hours of completed coursework) that lead to a Master of Fine Arts Degree.
Minor in Film Studies
The Film Studies minor offers students the opportunity to select a program of study that examines the many facets of American and international films. The interdisciplinary nature of the program allows students to experience different approaches to film study: film and cultural differences, basic film vocabulary, film history, film and social forces, film genres, film theories, film directors, and film aesthetics.
