August 11, 2008

We had an awesome graduation/alumni conference/ special screenings/fund raising gala, seeing great films starting with the D2’s on Thursday, and culminating with the MFA thesis films on Saturday. The thesis films were terrific, with “After the Storm” an overwhelming favorite in the audience voting. The entire weekend of social events, workshops, discussions was terrific. Prior to the MFA screening Andrew Bartels received the Florida Commerce Credit Union’s bi-annual Pathfinder Scholarship in the form of a $5,000 check. This award is presented at both BFA and MFA graduation to a film student selected by the faculty to help him or her get their start in the film industry after graduation. Big thanks to our alumni who participated in the weekend!

From Meghan Robertson (BFA 03) “A good friend of mine is looking for a post PA on a pilot starting mid-August. If you know of any recent grads looking for a entry-level position in post production, feel free to spread the word! Its here in LA and they can send their resumes to my email: MegMRobertson@aim.com <mailto:MegMRobertson@aim.com> .”

From Frank Gooden (MFA 99) “I forgot to mention a while ago that my film LOVE TRAP is on Showtime and The Movie Channel - has been screening on Showtime since June... it just started it's run on TMC in August... so please let our good people who read the WR know in case they still haven’t caught it!”

From Justyn Rowe (BFA 95) “I safely arrived in Dundee Scotland. Its cold and rainy and kind of blah, but still beautiufl scenery. I will be over here teaching filmmaking, shooting a christian documentary, shooting a music video, and also working with some guys who are producing a comedy pilot for paramount UK. Will be a great time and I've already gone through the center of town and eaten fish and chips a few too many times already. I'm going to be going to the Fringe festival in Edinburg and then onto Nottingham in England to visit the relatives. This should be a really great time.”

Of 5224 scripts, mine was one of 261 to survive the first round. “the Burning” is the story of an American backpacker who becomes ill and finds himself stranded in a creepy Romanian hospital. While there he comes into contact with the spirit of a young girl who was murdered by someone on the hospital staff. Let’s hope the script keep creeping out the judges!”

From Jen Mayer (BFA 00) “Adrian Kulp (Happy Madison Productions) and I have gotten married! We wed in Boston in an intimate, amazing ceremony on Saturday, July 19th, and then cruised to Bermuda with all our friends and family—its been an amazing ride, and we are thrilled.”

From Vickie Oldham (MFA 91) “I was at a workshop at the university where I serve as Marketing Director and Special Asst to the Prez. Looking at the agenda and speakers, I noticed a name I recognized…Dave Parrish (MFA 91). “Can’t be”, I thought to myself and asked a guy in the back to point Dave out to me.
